The building of the almshouse in memory of the marriage of Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna
Detailed description
The almshouse building was built in 1894-1896 in memory of the wedding of Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna. The author of the project is presumably N. K. Krasovsky. At first, the St. Petersburg press called it a barrack for 50 elderly women, but in fact the building was designed for comfortable living with everything you need - a lobby, terraces, a dining room and a buffet. At one time, it was equipped with a modern ventilation system for those times. In the period from the 1930s to the 1970s, the building was used as a nursery in Smolninsky district. Currently, the building has retained its historical architecture, stucco decoration and the main staircase. In 2014-2015, a partial reconstruction was carried out.
