The building of the almshouse in memory of the coming of age of Tsarevich Nikolai Alexandrovich
Detailed description
The history of this building began in 1859. By decision of the Tsar and Empress Maria Alexandrovna, a new almshouse was established in St. Petersburg for the care (protection) of the wounded, elderly and infirm. The Smolny Monastery's land was allocated for the creation of the monastery. The building was designed by Fyodor Eppinger in an eclectic form, the interior is modest and bright. The construction work was completed in 1862. In the same year, the single-domed family church was consecrated in the name of the Nativity of the Virgin, on the birthday of Tsarevich Nicholas Alexandrovich.
