Resurrection Smolny Cathedral
Detailed description
This building is a monument of Baroque architecture. It was originally built as a cathedral church for the Smolny Monastery in 1748-1757 by architect F. Rastrelli. In 1762, the decoration of the building began, but it was not completed. The building was finished by Yu.M. Felten. The multi-storey composition has many decorative elements and rushes upward with its composition. After the monastery was abolished, construction was stopped, and after that the building was transferred to the Institutions of Empress Maria Feodorovna, and in 1835 it was consecrated. Architect V.P. Stasov completed the interior decoration in 1832-1835.
