Barracks of the Life Guards of the 1st Cavalry Artillery Brigade
Detailed description
In 1851-1853, according to the plans of architect A. P. Gemilian, the barracks of the Life Guards of the 1st Cavalry Artillery Brigade were built. During the reign of Peter the Great, this area was used as an arsenal. Until 1720, it was known as the cannon yard. Workshops for blacksmiths, locksmiths, turners and other workshops were built around the courtyard. In 1721, an artillery school was built next to the cannon yard. The barracks resembled the architecture of the 19th century: a three-story building with a two-tone facade decorated with rustic, white architraves and pilasters. The first floor is decorated with rustication, the windows of the second floor are decorated with elegant Renaissance architraves in the form of porticos from small pilasters of the Corinthian order. It is currently used as an apartment building.
