E.P. Pashkova's Mansion
Detailed description
In 1814, Lieutenant General A.U. Bolotnikov began the construction of a three-story front house on the embankment. In 1816, Bolotnikov sold the unfinished house to Prince F.S. Golitsyn. The new owner of the house was Prince V.S. Trubetskoy (1776-1841), a participant in the Patriotic War of 1812 (his portrait can be seen in the Military Gallery in the Winter Palace). Many balls were held in the Trubetskoy house, which were attended by the secular elite of St. Petersburg and Tsar Nikolai Pavlovich. Pushkin also attended these balls, as evidenced by his diary entry dated January 26, 1834. After the death of the prince, his heirs sold the mansion to soldier Alexander Pashkov (1792-1868). He immediately began to rebuild it, which he carried out in 1842-1843 according to the plans of the talented architect G. A. Bosse. As a result, the facade of the building acquired the features of a transitional style combining elements of late classicism and neo-Renaissance, a style that passed into other early Bosse works.
