Ensemble of buildings of the Ministry of Finance
Detailed description
Two adjacent buildings with large arched windows were built for financial institutions – the Loan Treasury and state savings banks -between 1908 and1915. They currently house the Central Bank of Russia's Headquarters in St. Petersburg. These building complexes testify to the attempt of Russian architects at the beginning of the 20th century to find modern and optimal solutions in the layout, construction and composition of facades. The three-storey building of the Ministry of Finance was successfully integrated into the complex of surrounding buildings: the first floor was designed as a basement, and the second as an upper floor. The central part of the building is slightly lowered and protrudes beyond the red line. Shallow loggias protrude from the sides of the facade.
