Rusalkin Gate

The Mermaid Gate is one of the most romantic structures in Tsaritsyno Park. From the Nerastankino pavilion, you can look down at the ruins of this arch against the backdrop of water and a grove of trees. At the end of the 18th century, the upper part of the Tsaritsyn Pond was expanded, and the artificial island was divided into two parts by a canal. A group of architects led by architect Ivan Yerogov built an arch with a tower and a flag on this picturesque island. Couples in love could sail under the arch by boat and enjoy the beautiful view of the crowning hill and the sunlit Nerastankino Pavilion.
