House of Major General Count Mikhail Pavlovich Tolstoy
Detailed description
The Tolstoy House is a huge six–storey building located on Rubinstein Street and overlooking the Fontanka River embankment. This building is often referred to as the Tolstoy Apartment Building. The building was built in 1910-1912 by order of Major General Count Mikhail Pavlovich Tolstoy and designed by architect Fyodor Lidval, with the help of his students Richard Kitner and Dmitry Smirnov. According to the architect's idea, three spacious courtyards were combined into a street connecting the Fontanka River embankment and Rubinstein Street. From here, there are strict, elegant, classic construction sites, completed from above with a massive attic.
