House for court servants
Detailed description
The house was built in 1828 to accommodate the staff of the St. Petersburg palaces of the Grand ducal family. There were storerooms and laundries in the basement, as well as an infirmary. The apartments consisted of a room with an entrance hall, shared kitchens and facilities on the floor. There were firewood sheds, carriage sheds, and stables in the courtyard. In the following decades, the buildings retained their purpose. Government apartments were occupied by court officials. In the middle of the 19th century, R.I. Kuzmin reconstructed the building in the style of late classicism and completed it to three floors. In 1930, three more floors were added, while the facade decoration was also changed.
