House of Insurance Company Russia
Detailed description
The Rossiya Insurance Company Building is located on Mokhovaya Street, one of the oldest streets in St. Petersburg. Hamovaya Street received its first name in 1739 and was named after the Hamovniki settlement, that is, a weaver who once lived here. The October Revolution of 1917 changed the composition and life of the inhabitants of the house. Like other houses in the historical center of St. Petersburg, they suffered from the consolidation of buildings. Wealthy tenants who had previously lived in well-appointed multi-room apartments were forced to move into one or two rooms, and new tenants, workers and Soviet employees, moved into the vacant spaces. Luxurious halls were fenced off, storerooms and kitchens appeared in the corridors, and new people filled the houses. Looking over the fence, you can see a large courtyard and a monument to the character from the movie "The Heart of a Dog".
