The Church of Alexy, Metropolitan of Moscow, in Serednikovo
Detailed description
The ancient Church of Metropolitan Alexy, standing for more than three hundred years in Serednikovo, carefully preserves its history. In the 19th century, the church became the property of V. I. Firsanova. The church of St. Alexius was built of brick, the walls are decorated with pilasters, and magnificent pediments extend above the cornices. The bell tower is located next to the temple, and next to it there are two chapels dedicated to the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God and the Holy Great Martyr Paraskeva. The iconostasis of the church was created by the hands of local cabinetmakers, and several historical graves of clergymen can be found in the churchyard. Behind the main altar of the temple is also the burial place of the rector of the temple, who is familiar with Lermontov. One of the elements of the temple is its solid mosaic floor, which replaced the old limestone floor. Currently, services are held daily in the church of Metropolitan Alexy.
