Detailed description

In the immediate vicinity of Smolny Cathedral there is an important complex of engineering structures for the city's water supply system. The water tower and service buildings were built in the 19th century in the "brick" style. In 1860-1863, residents of the left-bank part of the city were given the opportunity to use the central water supply in the center of the allotted possession of the water tower. The octagonal tower has a height of about fifty meters and is the compositional dominant of the complex. In the form of Romanesque architecture. Currently, there is a museum here, the tower is an illustrative example of the revival of old utilitarian buildings in the city of St. Petersburg.
