Detailed description
The Great Imperial Stable is a historic building in St. Petersburg, occupying a block between the Moika River, Konyushennaya Square and the Griboyedov Canal, a group of buildings built in 1720-1723 by architect Nikolai Gerber on the orders of Tsar Peter I in the 18th century. About 100 years later, between 1817 and 1823, they were rebuilt by Vasily Stasov, and in the 19th century they were restored and modernized by three architects - Mikhail Zemtsov, Antonio Rinaldi and Peter Sadovnikov. After the revolution, the stable buildings were transferred to the cavalry police, and then to the NKVD garage. Since 2001, they have been included by the federal government in the list of important cultural monuments.
