Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos
Detailed description
The tent of the church is white with small green and red tiles scattered around it. This is the work of 20th century restorers. The original tiles were cut from the tent in the 18th century. Here you can see the unique structure of the church. A relatively low light figure-eight is placed on the quad, completed by a three-row slide of kokoshniks. Above this figure-of-eight is the base of the tent, which is also decorated with kokoshniks. At the corners of the quadrangle is a decorative dome, the neck of which was originally cylindrical, but became octagonal only in the process of later alterations. On three sides, the quadrangle is surrounded by a gallery in the eastern part, with two side chapels - St. Sergius (south side) and the Nine Martyrs (north side). There is a small decorative dome at the top of each aisle. The pronounced tiering of the apses gives a certain dynamism to the eastern appearance of the church, creating the impression of a ship sailing in the stormy waters of the ocean. There are no windows in the central apse.
