On a walk through the historical squares and streets located around Vagankovsky Hill, you will rediscover the familiar topography of the center of the capital. The names of streets and alleys will reveal the history of the formation of this part of the city, introduce you to the history of the creation of the Pashkov House and the first publicly accessible museum in Moscow, located in it, and you will also admire the legendary building of the Russian State Library (formerly the Lenin State Library of the USSR), the country's main library. The building of the Russian State Library is a real city for books and a whole complex of buildings, each of which is considered an outstanding architectural monument of its time. If the Pashkov House has become the most beautiful example of Russian classicism, then the main building of Leninka is a masterpiece of post—constructivism. Designed in the era of the avant-garde, it is designed in the spirit of Stalinist Art Deco, but at the same time flawlessly solves all the functional tasks of one of the largest book depositories in the world. Then you will visit the office premises and see the backstage life of the book city with its electric alarm system, airmail, and transport infrastructure. And you will get acquainted with the book masterpieces in the Book Museum, the largest in Russia. There are more than a thousand authentic exhibits related to the main stages of the book's history. You will see the most ancient of them — on papyrus and palm leaves; facsimile reproductions of the handwritten Gospel of Archangel in 1092 and the first printed book in the world, the famous Gutenberg Bible. The exhibition also features books by Slavic early printers, rare copies of the first and lifetime editions of great writers and scientists. Children are allowed only over 7 years old!
