A.V. Lopatina's mansion
Detailed description
Lopatina Mansion is a mansion in the center of Moscow, built in the Russian style in 1876 on Bolshaya Nikitskaya Street, designed by A. S. Kaminsky. Since 1963, the Brazilian Embassy has been located in the building. The mansion occupies an important place in the cultural heritage of the Russian Federation. Lopatina's house is one of the earliest examples of the Russian style in residential architecture. The building itself resembles a boyar's chamber. However, a distinctive feature of the mansion is the decoration of its exterior walls. They are decorative planes with almost no relief. Covering exterior walls with ceramics was a typical decoration method used mainly for educational and industrial buildings, and was an unusual design technique for the late 19th century.
